1. What is Trimax Environmental Decking?

Trimax Environmental Decking is manufactured from a patented blend of plastic resins, fiberglass and other additives that offer exceptional and longer lasting properties than traditional wood lumber and wood/plastic composite products. This resin-based product does not include any wood particles and therefore cannot absorb or swell due to moisture. It will never rot or be damaged by insects and is highly stain resistant. Do not accept any imitations!

3. What is the difference between Trimax Environmental Decking and
    “Composite” Decking?

Leading composite decking is made from a mixture of waste wood fibers and recycled plastics. The weak link in all composites is the wood! The wood fillers make composite decking susceptible to fading, staining and swelling due to absorbed moisture. Trimax Environmental Decking is made from mostly recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic – the kind found in milk bottles. Trimax Environmental Decking contains no wood fillers and cannot rot, peel, weather or blister.

4. Will the color of Trimax Environmental Decking products fade or
change color once it is installed?

Composite decks have a reputation for quickly fading after exposure to the elements. Trimax Environmental Decking has special Ultra-Violet (UV) stabilizers added to help protect the color and the integrity of the HDPE plastics. And because it contains no wood fibers to weather, Trimax Environmental Decking will maintain its new color for years with only a slight change in color over the long life of your deck.

6. Can I install a Trimax Environmental Decking myself?

We recommend you work with a trained and qualified Trimax Environmental Decking installation contractor. We want to exceed your expectations with your Trimax Environmental Decking system; there are a number of special installation requirements that installers need to understand and incorporate with regard to fastening the planking and allowing for the material's natural expansion and contraction. We encourage you to speak with a Trimax Environmental Decking retailer or contractor for more information. If you do build the deck, please refer to and follow precisely the Trimax Environmental Decking Installation Guidelines found in the Technical Data portion of this website.

10. What about mildew on Trimax Environmental Decking?

Trimax Environmental Decking is not made with wood additives like composite decking so it cannot grow mold beneath the surface of the product. Any surface if exposed to a dark and damp environment has the ability to grow mold. If Trimax Environmental Decking is in this type of environment, surface mold may grow on the outside, but can be easily cleaned with bleach-based cleaners and a brushing with no harmful effect to the Trimax Environmental Decking surface.

11. Should I be concerned about surface scratches on Trimax
      Environmental Decking?

Trimax Environmental Decking is very durable and highly impact-resistance. It will resist most scratches and is designed to stay looking new for years. However, as in all flooring surfaces, it can be scratched if subjected to abrasive objects and severe treatment.

12. Can static electricity be generated when walking across the deck       floor?

Yes. In some instances, deck owners have reported generating static electricity when walking across their decks- similar to walking across a carpet in the wintertime. This is a naturally occurring phenomenon, and only occurs in very dry conditions and usually on newer decks. Trimax Environmental Decking uses anti-static agents in our decking to minimize this problem. Homeowners can dampen the Trimax Environmental Decking surface to eliminate this problem if necessary.

13. Is Trimax Environmental Decking slippery when wet?

Trimax Environmental Decking is no more slippery than painted or finished wood. The embossed wood grain on Trimax Environmental Decking deck planks increases traction and reduces slipperyness. During the winter, salt and other anti-ice products can be safely applied directly to your Trimax Environmental Decking to melt ice or frost.

14. Will Trimax Environmental Decking get hot in direct sun?
